Softball Recap: Grassfield Makes It Four in a Row at Home

Grassfield got themselves on the board against Smithfield on Monday, but Smithfield never followed suit. They were the clear victors by a 10-0 margin over the Packers. Considering the Grizzlies have won four matches by more than five runs this season, Monday's blowout was nothing new.

Braelyn Bailey made a splash no matter where she played. She tossed two innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. She has been consistent recently: she hasn't given up more than one earned run in three consecutive appearances. She was also stellar in the batter's box, going 1-for-2 with one home run and three RBI.

In other batting news, Cydney Lafon was incredible, firing off two home runs and three RBI while going 2-for-4. Another player making a difference was EG Hatcher, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with two runs, one triple, and one stolen base.

Grassfield was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .423. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Smithfield only posted a batting average of .000.

Grassfield pushed their record up to 8-1 with the victory, which was their fourth straight at home. The home wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 7.8 runs over those games. As for Smithfield, they now have a losing record of 4-5.

Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Grassfield will host Indian River at 5:45 p.m. on Tuesday. The Grizzlies are facing the Braves at the right time seeing as the Braves are stuck on a four-game losing streak. As for Smithfield, they will be playing at home against York at 4:30 p.m. on Wednesday. The Falcons will roll in looking for their sixth straight victory, something the Packers surely won't give up without a fight.
