Damian Briseno was a major factor while hitting and pitching. On the mound, he didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only one hit while striking out seven over five innings pitched. Those seven strikeouts gave him a new career-high. He was also big at the plate, going 2-for-3 with one home run, two stolen bases, and three RBI. That home run was his first of the season.
In other batting news, Levi Coghill was a standout: he got on base in three of his four plate appearances with two stolen bases, two runs, and two RBI. Tayte Bernhardt was another key player, getting on base in all three of his plate appearances with four stolen bases and two runs.
Delphi Community always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .561. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as South Newton only posted an OBP of .273.
Meanwhile, there's no place like home for Tipton, who bounced back after a loss on the road on Friday. They skirted past Clinton Prairie 8-6.
Aaden Gibbs was excellent, going 1-for-3 with one stolen base, two RBI, and one run. Another player making a difference was Jarren Auler, who went 1-for-3 with two RBI, one run, and one double.
Tipton's win bumped their record up to 4-10. As for Delphi Community, their victory bumped their record up to 13-3.
Tipton's pitching crew has a crucial task ahead of them: Delphi Community has hit smart this season, having averaged an OBP of .492. It's a different story for Tipton, though, as they've only averaged .350. Will they be able to contain Delphi Community's hitters?
Delphi Community came out on top in a nail-biter against Tipton when the teams last played back in May of 2017, sneaking past 9-8. Will the Oracles repeat their success, or do the Blue Devils have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
