After two games on the road, Ritchie County is heading back home. They will take on the Magnolia Blue Eagles at 7:00 p.m. on Monday. Given that the two teams suffered a loss in their last game, they both have a little extra motivation heading into this game.
Last Thursday, Ritchie County came up short against Webster County and fell 58-46.
Despite the defeat, Ritchie County had strong showings from Andrea Davis, who scored 11 points along with eight steals and seven rebounds, and Elsa Law, who scored 12 points along with seven assists and seven rebounds. Davis hasn't dropped below two steals for five straight games. Chelsie Jeffrey was another key contributor, scoring nine points along with two steals.
Meanwhile, it was a hard-fought matchup, but Magnolia had to settle for a 42-40 defeat against Bridgeport on Thursday. The loss was a bit of a surprise, as Magnolia came into the game with a sizable advantage in MaxPreps' basketball rankings in their respective home states (they are ranked 115th in West Virginia, while Bridgeport is ranked 756th in Ohio).
Ritchie County has been struggling recently as they've lost 11 of their last 12 matches, which put a noticeable dent in their 5-13 record this season. As for Magnolia, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 1-17.
Everything came up roses for Ritchie County against Magnolia in their previous meeting back in December of 2023 as the squad secured a 76-28 win. Does Ritchie County have another victory up their sleeve, or will Magnolia turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
