Basketball Recap: Northwood Temple Academy Extends Winning Streak to Three

After losing to Cape Fear Academy the last time they met, Northwood Temple Academy decided to demonstrate that turnabout is fair play. The stars were shining brightly for the Northwood Temple Academy Eagles in a 70-56 victory over the Cape Fear Academy Hurricanes on Saturday. The win was nothing new for the Eagles as they're now sitting on three straight.

Northwood Temple Academy had a senior duo take command as Kenny Vera went 9 for 12 on his way to 23 points in addition to eight rebounds and three blocks and Elijah Kindle posted 20 points and five steals. Vera's afternoon made it three games in a row in which he has scored at least ten points. The team also got some help courtesy of Winston Waite, who had nine points and five rebounds.

Despite the defeat, Cape Fear Academy saw an underclassman step up: sophomore Kareem Anderson went 8 of 18 on his way to 19 points. Another player making a difference was Isaiah Gibson, who put up seven points in addition to six boards and three steals.

Northwood Temple Academy's victory bumped their record up to 12-4. As for Cape Fear Academy, they have traveled a rocky road recently having lost three of their last four matchups, which put a noticeable dent in their 8-6 record this season.

When Northwood Temple Academy and Cape Fear Academy next hit the court, they'll be up against teams who recently just can't seem to lose. Northwood Temple Academy will try to stop Wayne Country Day's seven-game winning streak when the meet at 1:00 p.m. on Friday. Similarly, Cape Fear Academy will try to stop Laney's five-game winning streak when the meet at 12:00 p.m. on Friday.
