This season hasn't been kind to the Hinkley Thunderbirds, who are still winless after their 13th game. They had to suffer through a rough 83-6 loss at the hands of Denver West. Hinkley was in a tough position after the first half, with the score already sitting at 40-6.
Despite the defeat, Hinkley saw an underclassman step up: Bagnel Ndiaye scored five points along with nine rebounds and three blocks. That's the first time this season that Ndiaye posted two or more blocks. The team also got some help courtesy of Deveni Romero, who scored no points along with seven rebounds and three blocks.
Hinkley dropped their record down to 0-13 with that loss, which was their 13th straight at home dating back to last season. That rough patch could be blamed on the team's offensive performance across that stretch, as they only averaged 12.1 points per game. As for Denver West, the win got them back to even at 8-8.
Hinkley will head out on the road to face off against George Washington at 6:30 p.m. on Wednesday. George Washington presents a significant challenge as they come into the match much higher ranked than Hinkley in Colorado (George Washington is ranked 128th, while Hinkley is ranked 305th). As for Denver West, they will be playing in front of their home fans against Kennedy at 7:30 p.m. on Wednesday.
