Merritt Island (Fla.) extended its winning streak to nine games with a 20-3 victory over
Rockledge (Fla.) on Saturday.
After taking the lead on a touchdown pass by
Nick Smith to
Shaq Jones in the second quarter, the Mustangs were up 20-0 at the half.
Merritt Island saw its 20-point halftime lead fall to 17 entering the fourth.
MI went into the matchup giving up only 13.9 points per game.
A 25-0 Merritt Island victory was the result when the squads faced off last season.
The defeat comes as a step back for Rockledge, who notched a 41-17 victory over Titusville in its previous outing. The loss broke Rockledge's two-game winning streak.
Merritt Island (9-0) goes up against Ponte Vedra in a non-conference game matchup next week, while Rockledge (3-6) locks horns with Cocoa also in a non-conference game.
