The Corning Cardinals's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Wednesday after their fourth straight loss. They were beaten by Mt. Shasta 63-26. The result shouldn't come as a shock considering that's the fewest points Corning has scored all season.
Jeff Mendros and Roman Bennett certainly did their best on Wednesday to try and avoid the loss. Mendros scored 11 points, while Bennett scored five points along with four steals. Bennett has been hot recently, having posted two or more steals the last three times he's played.
Corning struggled to get the ball back on offense and finished the game with only two offensive rebounds. That's the fewest offensive rebounds they've managed all season.
Corning's loss dropped their record down to 6-8. As for Mt. Shasta, their win was their third straight at home, which pushed their record up to 10-3.
Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Corning will get a bit of extra time to process the loss as their next game is a ways off. They'll take on Central Valley at 8:00 p.m. on January 4, 2024. Mt. Shasta will be home for the holidays to greet Enterprise at 3:30 p.m. on Friday. Enterprise is also coming in off of a big victory, so somebody is in for a big reversal of fortune.
