The Central Catholic Raiders had already won four in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 33.8 points), and they went ahead and made it five on Friday. They snuck past Manteca with a 39-35 win. This was one game where the offenses had no trouble playing at a high level.
It was another big night for Tyler Wentworth, who threw for 225 yards and two touchdowns while completing 75% of his passes, and also punched in a touchdown on the ground. The team also got some help courtesy of Brooklyn Cheek, who picked up 102 receiving yards and a touchdown.
When it comes to explaining why Manteca lost, one person who can't be blamed is Bryson Davis. Despite the final result, he rushed for 228 yards and two touchdowns while picking up 7.9 yards per carry. Davis was no stranger to the big play, turning on the jets for a run that went for 63 yards. Another player making a difference was Julian Moncada, who picked up 136 receiving yards and two touchdowns.
Central Catholic's victory was their third straight at home, bumping their overall record up to 7-2. Those victories were due in large part to their offensive dominance across that stretch, as they averaged 42.7 points per game. As for Manteca, their defeat dropped their record down to 6-3.
Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Central Catholic will take on Sierra at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Sierra will have to bring their A-game into this one, as they are staring down a pretty big deficit in the MaxPreps California Rankings (they are ranked 391st, while Central Catholic is ranked 34th). As for Manteca, they will head out on the road to face off against Oakdale at 7:00 p.m. on Friday.
