6A Region 2 recap September 10, 2013
Columbus was the team that gained the most ground in the standings this week, jumping from eighth to third in 6A Region 2. The Falcons vanquished New Hope 20-16 earlier in the week.
Murrah took down Jim Hill 53-6 last week, the largest margin of any game. Vonnie Howard threw for 116 yards and 3 touchdowns during the win.
Joseph Willis provided a threat through the air and on the ground as Madison Central bested West Monroe. He completed 20 passes for 221 yards and 2 touchdowns and also ran for 39 yards. Willis' favorite target this week was Keenan Barnes, who caught 10 passes for 157 yards.
Marquisian Chapman was the most successful running back in the league this week. In 11 carries, he ran for 119 yards as the Mustangs bested the Rebels. Teammate Josef Cornelius added to the ground attack by rushing for 102 yards.
Princeton Jones threw for 175 yards and 3 touchdowns. He went 8-20 with 2 interceptions.
Barnes was the best wideout in the league this week as Madison Central beat West Monroe. Jaylon Uzodinma helped Madison Central's passing attack out by catching 5 balls for 33 yards.
Jones put up the best numbers through the air as Starkville lost to West Point. Jones' favorite target this week was AJ Brown, who caught 2 passes for 96 yards.
Bobby Hall's team and Don Shows' team played the closest game in 6A Region 2 this week, with Bobby Hall's team eventually emerging with a 28-27 victory. Willis in the win.
