Jose Rosa was huge while hitting and pitching even without the win. He looked comfortable on the mound, striking out six batters over four innings while giving up just one earned (and two unearned) runs off five hits. He has been consistent recently: he hasn't given up more than two walks in three consecutive appearances. He was also big at the plate, getting on base in all three of his plate appearances with one stolen base and one run.
In other batting news, LedieL Espinosa and Yadier Tapia did some serious damage despite the final result: Espinosa went 2-for-4 with two runs, one stolen base, and one RBI, while Tapia went 2-for-4 with three RBI, one run, and one double.
Meanwhile, Nutley got themselves on the board against West Orange on Monday, but West Orange never followed suit. They walked away with a 3-0 win over the Mountaineers.
Drew Slomkowski tossed a big game, not allowing a single earned run and allowing only two hits while striking out eight over 6.2 innings pitched. He also tossed no earned runs, which is notable because Nutley is 2-1 when he allows at most one earned run, but 9-10 otherwise.
On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Nichoals Palumbo, who went 1-for-2 with one home run and two RBI. That's the most RBI he has posted over his last five games.
Nutley pushed their record up to 11-11 with the victory, which was their fifth straight on the road. Those road wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 9.8 runs over those games. As for Barringer, their defeat dropped their record down to 5-14.
Barringer came up short against Nutley in their previous meeting back in April, falling 6-3. Will the Blue Bears have more luck at home instead of on the road? Check back here after the action for a full breakdown and analysis of the contest.
