Puckett is 9-1 against Scott Central since March of 2019 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Tuesday. The Wolves will look to defend their home field against the Rebels at 7:00 p.m. The timing is sure in Puckett's favor as the team sits on seven straight wins at home while Scott Central has been banged up by nine consecutive losses on the road dating back to last season.
Puckett's pitching crew heads into the contest hoping to repeat the dominance they displayed on Saturday. Everything went their way against Sebastopol as they made off with a 15-0 victory. The result was nothing new for the Wolves, who have now won 13 matchups by six runs or more so far this season.
Truitte Carter was incredible, getting on base in all three of his plate appearances with two stolen bases, three RBI, and two runs. That's the most stolen bases he has posted since back in February. Tim Axton was another key player, going a perfect 1-for-1 with two runs and two RBI.
Puckett was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .500. That was just more of the same: they've now posted a batting average of .357 or higher in four consecutive games.
The home team had won the previous four meetings between Scott Central and Newton, and Scott Central kept the tradition alive. The Rebels came out on top against the Tigers by a score of 9-5 on Friday. The Rebels haven't had any issues with the Tigers recently, as the game was their eighth consecutive win against them.
Kip Frey spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered three earned (and two unearned) runs on six hits and racked up eight Ks.
At the plate, Scott Central let Kevin Butler and Colt Frey run wild. Butler went a perfect 3-for-3 with five stolen bases and four runs, while Frey went 2-for-3 with four stolen bases, four RBI, and one run. Butler has become a key player for Scott Central: the team is 2-1 when he posts at least two runs, but 0-10 otherwise. The team also got some help courtesy of Mark Laster, who got on base in two of his four plate appearances with four stolen bases and one run.
Scott Central's victory bumped their record up to 2-11. As for Puckett, their win bumped their record up to 18-3.
The pitchers for both teams better look sharp on Tuesday as neither team is afraid to steal. Puckett has been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 3 stolen bases per game. However, it's not like Scott Central struggles in that department as they've been averaging 7.5 stolen bases. The only question left is which team can snag more.
Puckett came out on top in a nail-biter against Scott Central in their previous meeting back in February of 2024, sneaking past 15-13. Do the Wolves have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Rebels turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
