The Auburn Tigers are taking a road trip to face off against the Dothan Cougars at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday. Auburn's pitching crew has only allowed four runs per game this season, so Dothan's hitters will have their work cut out for them.
Pike Road hit Auburn with a six-run fifth inning on Friday, which goes a long way in explaining the final result. The Tigers took a 9-5 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Patriots. The Tigers' loss signaled the end of their three-game winning streak.
Lawson Hare made the most of his time in the batter's box despite the final result and got on base in three of his four plate appearances with one home run, one stolen base, and two RBI. The team also got some help courtesy of Antwane Daniels, who got on base in all four of his plate appearances with two runs.
Dothan not only won on Thursday, but they posted their biggest win since February 24th (when they won 16-2). They were the clear victors by a 12-2 margin over Carver Montgomery. The victory made it back-to-back wins for the Cougars.
Graham Davis made a big impact while hitting and pitching. On the mound, he didn't allow a single earned run while striking out seven over five innings pitched. He has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't given up more than two walks in seven consecutive appearances. He was also solid in the batter's box, getting on base in three of his four plate appearances with one run.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Tripp Benton, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with three runs, three RBI, and two doubles. That's the most RBI he has posted over his last ten contests. Perrin Gomez was another key player, going 1-for-3 with three RBI and one double.
Dothan always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .600. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.
Auburn's defeat dropped their record down to 13-8. As for Dothan, their record now sits at 7-12.
Auburn got the 'W' when the teams last played back in March of 2025 against Dothan by a conclusive 12-4 score. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Tigers since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
