The Sparta Trojans will be staying on the road on Thursday to face off against the Lafayette County Huskers at 4:15 p.m. on December 21st. Both teams come into the contest bolstered by wins in their previous matches.
Even though Sparta has not done well against Forsyth recently (they were 0-4 in their previous four matchups), they didn't let the past get in their way on Monday. Sparta snuck past Forsyth with a 42-36 win. Despite the win, that was the fewest points Sparta has scored all year.
Sparta got their win on the backs of several key players, but it was Jacob Lafferty out in front who dropped a double-double on 21 points and 17 rebounds. The contest was Lafferty's eighth in a row with at least ten points. Another player making a difference was Leeanthoney Mayes, who scored 14 points.
Meanwhile, Lafayette County waltzed into their matchup Monday with two straight wins but they left with three. They came out on top against Marshall by a score of 65-56. Given Lafayette County's advantage in MaxPreps' Missouri basketball rankings (they are ranked 78th, while Marshall is ranked 392nd), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Sparta's win was their ninth straight on the road dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 8-0. Those good results were due in large part to their offensive dominance across that stretch, as they averaged 66.6 points per game. As for Lafayette County, their win bumped their record up to 8-1.
