The Mater Lakes Academy Bears fought the good fight in their overtime matchup against the True North Classical Academy Titans on Thursday but wound up with a less-than-desirable result. They were just a bucket shy of victory and fell 62-61 to the Titans. It was the first time this season that Mater Lakes Academy let down their fans at home.
Several Bears players turned in solid performances despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Clarence Burts, who scored 17 points. Anthony Knowles was another key contributor, scoring 13 points along with two steals.
True North Classical Academy's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Jasen Lopez led the charge by dropping a double-double on 19 points and ten rebounds. Another player making a difference was Boosie Swan, who scored 18 points along with five rebounds.
Mater Lakes Academy's loss ended a 17-game streak of wins at home dating back to last season and dropped them to 16-8. As for True North Classical Academy, the win was the sixth in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 20-5.
Mater Lakes Academy will take on the Chiefs at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Carol City is no doubt hoping to put an end to a four-game streak of away losses. As for True North Classical Academy, they will take on the Aviators at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Academy for Innovative Education is coming into the match on a five-game losing streak.
