Winfield and Scott are an even 5-5 against one another since April of 2019, but likely not for long. Winfield will take on Scott at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Both teams are coming into the game red-hot, with Winfield sitting on six straight wins and Scott on three.
Winfield barely beat Wayne the last time the pair played, but that sure wasn't the case this time around. Winfield's pitchers stepped up to hand Wayne a 6-0 shutout on Monday. The result was nothing new for the Generals, who have now won four matches by six runs or more so far this season.
The team relied heavily on Owen Taylor, who scored a run while going 2-for-2.
Meanwhile, Scott won against Independence on Thursday with 14 runs and they decided to stick to that run total again on Saturday. Scott blew past Clay County 14-2. The Skyhawks are also no stranger to big wins: their blowout was the third contest they've won by 6+ runs this season.
Jason Ferrell and Ryan Neal were a major factor while hitting and pitching. Throwing, Ferrell pitched two innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. Meanwhile, Neal pitched four innings while giving up just one earned run off one hit. That's the fewest earned runs he has allowed since back in May of 2024. At the plate, Ferrell scored two runs and stole two bases while going 2-for-4, while Neal went 4-for-5 with one RBI. Those four hits gave Neal a new career-high.
In other batting news, Louden White was incredible, scoring a run and stealing two bases while going 2-for-3. Alex Dent was another key player, scoring two runs and stealing two bases.
Scott kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 16 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least nine hits in three consecutive games.
Winfield's victory was their seventh straight at home, which pushed their record up to 8-1. Those wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 9.1 runs over those games. As for Scott, their record is now 6-1-2.
Tuesday's matchup will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Winfield hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .314. However, it's not like Scott struggles in that department as they've averaged .372. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Winfield took their victory against Scott in their previous meeting back in May of 2024 by a conclusive 12-1. The rematch might be a little tougher for Winfield since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
