Madera hasn't had much luck against San Joaquin Memorial recently, but that could start to change on Friday. The Coyotes will square off against the Panthers at 7:30 p.m. Madera knows how to get points on the board -- the team has finished with 31 points or more in their past seven contests -- so hopefully San Joaquin Memorial likes a good challenge.
On Friday, Madera came up short against Bullard and fell 42-33. The game marked the Coyotes' lowest-scoring matchup so far this season.
Madera's defeat shouldn't obscure the performances of Jayden Martinez, who gained 183 total yards and four touchdowns, and Elias Mena, who threw for 339 yards and three touchdowns.
Meanwhile, it was a proper cat-fight when San Joaquin Memorial duked it out with Edison on Friday. The Panthers put the hurt on the Tigers with a sharp 35-10 victory. The result was nothing new for the Panthers, who have now won three contests by 25 points or more so far this season.
Madera better keep an eye on Colton Johnson. He was instrumental in San Joaquin Memorial's win, rushing for 75 yards and one score on only nine carries, while also throwing for 170 yards and a pair of TDs. Jack Triplett got in on the action too, converting a pick into a touchdown.
San Joaquin Memorial didn't go easy on the quarterback and picked off two passes before the game was over. The picks came courtesy of John Paul Hernandez and Triplett. San Joaquin Memorial received some extra help from Aidyn Ragsdale, whose fumble return for a touchdown made for one of the most unforgettable moments.
San Joaquin Memorial pushed their record up to 4-3 with the win, which was their third straight at home. The home victories came thanks in part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 37.3 points over those games. As for Madera, their loss dropped their record down to 5-2.
Madera couldn't quite finish off San Joaquin Memorial when the teams last played back in October of 2024 and fell 25-23. A big factor in that loss was the dominant performance of Johnson, who threw for 246 yards and three touchdowns on only 17 passes. Now that the Coyotes know the damage he can cause, will they be able to stop him this time? Check MaxPreps.com after the match to find out.
