Jontay Porter has emerged as a breakout star on Nike's EYBL circuit this spring.
The 6-foot-9, 240-pound forward ended his recruitment Monday night by delivering a verbal commitment to Missouri.
247Sports Director of Basketball Scouting Jerry Meyer has Porter pegged as the No. 18 overall prospect in the Class of 2018 – though there is a chance he could fast-track his arrival at Mizzou and enroll this fall.
That would mean playing alongside his older brother once again and under the tutelage of his father, an assistant coach under Cuonzo Martin at Missouri.
He spoke to Dave Matter of the
St. Louis Post-Dispatch on that topic following his pledge to the Tigers.
"I know what my decision could be but I don't want to tell anyone yet," Porter said.
Porter is averaging 18.1 points and 12.7 rebounds per game for MoKan Elite on the EYBL circuit, emerging from his older brother's massive shadow as an elite prospect in his own right.
At
Nathan Hale (Seattle, Wash.) over the winter, Porter averaged 14.3 points and 13.6 rebounds per game for a team that went 29-0 en route to state and national titles.
Should he remain in high school next year, Porter is expected to attend
Father Tolton (Columbia, Mo.) – a school he helped win a state title as a sophomore.
