The Lyman Greyhounds's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Wednesday after their third straight loss. They fell to Winter Springs 64-60. Despite running the score up even higher than they did on Monday (55), Lyman still had to take the loss.
When it comes to explaining why Lyman lost, one person who can't be blamed is Max Mattingly. Despite the final result, he dropped a double-double on 19 points and 17 rebounds. Joseph Lewis was another key contributor, scoring 11 points.
Even though they lost, Lyman were smashing the offensive glass and finished the game with 23 offensive rebounds. That's the most offensive rebounds they've managed all season.
It was another big night for Terell James, who scored 31 points for Winter Springs. The game was James' third in a row with at least ten points. Another player making a difference was Saige Carnegie, who scored 11 points.
Lyman has been struggling recently, as they've lost five of their last six contests, which put a noticeable dent in their 5-12 record this season. As for Winter Springs, the victory makes it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 9-4.
Lyman will be playing in front of their home fans against Lake Brantley at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. Hopefully Lake Brantley focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 12 on Wednesday. Winter Springs won't have much time to rest: their next match is against Hagerty at 6:00 p.m. on January 11th. Hagerty is on a four-game streak of home wins, Winter Springs a seven-game streak of away wins (dating back to last season)-- so someone will have to leave a streak behind on the court.
