Beaverton is 0-10 against Sunset since April of 2018 but things could change on Monday. The Beavers will head out to take on the Apollos at 5:00 p.m. Neither Beaverton nor Sunset posted many runs in their last games, so it might be the pitching crews that decide this one.
Jesuit hit Beaverton with a six-run fourth inning on Friday, which goes a long way in explaining the final result. The Beavers came up short against the Crusaders, falling 11-1. The Beavers just can't catch a break and have now endured three losses in a row.
Beaverton saw five different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Addison Riedel, who went 1-for-3 with one home run.
Meanwhile, Sunset hadn't done well against Westview recently (they were 2-7 in their previous nine matchups), but they didn't let the past get in their way on Friday. The Apollos' pitcher stepped up to hand the Wildcats a 2-0 shutout.
Not much got past Sydney Arnold, who gave up just two hits and racked up 11 Ks to keep Westview off the board. Arnold has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't given up more than two walks in ten consecutive appearances.
On the hitting side, Sunset let Shelby Townsend and Jordan Pe?a run wild. Townsend went 1-for-3 with one home run, while Pe?a went 1-for-3 with one home run. That home run marked the first that Townsend has launched this season.
Sunset lost a few balls and finished the game with two home runs. That's the most home runs they've posted since the start of last season.
Beaverton's defeat dropped their record down to 11-13. As for Sunset, their record now sits at 21-4.
Monday's matchup will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Beaverton hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .344. However, it's not like Sunset struggles in that department as they've averaged .339. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Beaverton suffered a grim 15-1 defeat to Sunset when the teams last played two weeks ago. Can the Beavers avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
