Windsor/Stewardson-Strasburg will take on the Meridian Hawks at 4:30 p.m. on Wednesday. Each of these teams will be fighting to keep a win streak alive as Windsor/Stewardson-Strasburg comes in on eight and Meridian on three.
Windsor/Stewardson-Strasburg's pitching crew heads into the contest hoping to repeat the dominance they displayed on Tuesday. They blew past Dieterich 13-0. Considering Windsor/Stewardson-Strasburg has won seven games by more than six runs this season, Tuesday's blowout was nothing new.
Samantha Hayes was a major factor no matter where she played. She didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only two hits over five innings pitched. She has been consistent : she hasn't given up more than one earned run any time she's pitched this season. She was also stellar in the batter's box, going 3-for-4 with two runs, one triple, and one RBI. That triple was her first of the season.
In other batting news, Windsor/Stewardson-Strasburg got a massive performance out of Kendra Hayes, who scored three runs and stole a base while going 2-for-4. Hayes also put up a triple, which was her first of the season. Mya Friese was another key player, scoring three runs and stealing a base while getting on base in three of her four plate appearances.
Meanwhile, Meridian was able to grind out a solid victory over Central A & M on Tuesday, taking the game 7-3.
Like Windsor/Stewardson-Strasburg, Meridian also got a great game from a two-way player: Ashley Schelling. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out 11 batters over seven innings while giving up three earned runs off seven hits. Schelling was also big at the plate, going 2-for-4 with one double and one RBI. That's the most hits she has posted since back in May of 2024.
In other batting news, Madi Kapchinske and Layla Lucas did most of the damage at the plate: Kapchinske scored two runs and stole a base while going 3-for-5, while Lucas scored a run and stole a base while going 2-for-4. What's more, Lucas posted three RBI, the most she's had since back in April of 2024.
Meridian kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 12 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least nine hits in three consecutive matchups.
Windsor/Stewardson-Strasburg's win was their fourth straight on the road dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 8-0. The road victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 0.5 runs on average over those games. As for Meridian, their win bumped their record up to 6-1.
The batters for both teams will have to hit smart on Wednesday as both have some strikeout artists on the roster. Windsor/Stewardson-Strasburg has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 7.2 strikeouts per game. However, it's not like Meridian struggles in that department as they've been averaging 7.6 strikeouts. Considering how easily both teams rack up Ks, the hitters on both teams better bring their A-game into this one.
