The Jackson Red Devils's game on Friday was a tough loss, but they didn't let that memory haunt them on Saturday. They came out on top against Mary Persons by a score of 59-52. For those curious, yes, that was the biggest win Jackson has managed all season.
Jackson's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Josh Goodrum led the charge by scoring 16 points along with two steals. Goodrum has been hot recently, having posted two or more steals the last four times he's played. Jaden Roberts was another key contributor, scoring eight points along with five rebounds and five steals.
Malaki Knight and Ty Dumas certainly did their best on Saturday to avoid the loss. Knight scored 11 points along with eight rebounds, while Dumas scored 13 points along with six rebounds. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Knight has scored all season. The team also got some help courtesy of Dee Grier, who scored seven points along with four steals.
Jackson's victory ended a six-game drought on the road dating back to last season and puts them at 3-15. As for Mary Persons, they have traveled a rocky road recently having lost 12 of their last 13 matches, which put a noticeable dent in their 4-16 record this season.
Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Jackson and the Pirates will face off at 7:30 p.m. on January 23rd without much rest after finishing up games yesterday. Pike County is coming into the game on a three-game losing streak. As for Mary Persons, they will be playing in front of their home fans against the Trojans at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday. One thing working in Peach County's favor is that they have posted big point totals in their last six contests.
