It was a good run, but the Point Arena Pirates unfortunately witnessed the end of their eight-game winning streak on Friday. They took a 71-59 hit to the loss column at the hands of Round Valley. Point Arena was given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Mustangs apparently hadn't forgotten their defeat the last time these teams played back in January.
Derek Billy and Fernando Lopez certainly did their best on Friday to avoid the loss. Billy dropped a double-double on 18 points and ten rebounds, while Lopez scored 20 points along with five rebounds. Billy has been hot recently, having posted two or more steals the last nine times he's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Cody Chavez, who scored eight points along with six rebounds.
Point Arena's loss ended a six-game streak of away wins and brought them to 15-6. As for Round Valley, they are on a roll lately: they've won four of their last five matches, which provided a massive bump to their 12-8 record this season.
Point Arena will be playing in front of their home fans against the Bearcats at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Potter Valley comes in still looking for their first win of the season. As for Round Valley, they will head out on the road to square off against the Panthers at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Anderson Valley is out to stop a four-game streak of losses at home.
