Softball Recap: Marcellus Has No Trouble Against Cazenovia

Marcellus won the last time they faced Cazenovia and things went their way on Saturday too. The Mustangs blew past the Lakers 8-2. The Mustangs might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won seven matchups by six runs or more this season.

Kendall LaManche spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered two runs (both of which were unearned) on four hits and racked up nine Ks. She has been consistent: she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in six consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, Janzen Long and Carly Sears did most of the damage at the plate: Long went 3-for-4 with three RBI, two doubles, and one run, while Sears got on base in four of her five plate appearances with three RBI and one run. Those two doubles gave Long a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Chloe Kuttruff, who went 1-for-4 with two runs and one double.

Marcellus hit smart and finished the game with only two strikeouts. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Cazenovia struck out nine times.

The victory made it two in a row for Marcellus and bumps their season record up to 7-2-1. Those wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered a grand total of 3 runs in those games. As for Cazenovia, they now have a losing record of 5-6.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Marcellus will square off against Homer at 5:00 p.m. on Monday. As for Cazenovia, they will take on Solvay at 5:15 p.m. on Tuesday.
