The high-scoring performance was a welcome turnaround for the Blue Devils' hitters, who had struggled in the games prior.
Zoey Zulkowski made a splash while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she struck out seven batters over 2.2 innings while giving up just one earned (and two unearned) runs off two hits. Zulkowski was even better at the plate, going 2-for-4 with one home run, three runs, and three RBI.
In other batting news, Maria Castro and Aubrie Monaghan did most of the damage at the plate: Castro scored three runs and stole three bases while getting on base in all five of her plate appearances, while Monaghan scored two runs and stole two bases while going 3-for-4. Brynn Burke was another key player, scoring three runs and stealing two bases while getting on base in two of her four plate appearances.
Shenandoah Valley kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 12 hits. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Columbia Montour Vo-Tech only managed six hits.
Meanwhile, Weatherly fell victim to Hanover Area and their airtight pitching crew on Friday. They came up short against the Hawkeyes, falling 11-0. Having soared to a lofty 18 runs in the game before, Weatherly's shutout was a dramatic turnaround.
Weatherly dropped their record down to 1-2 with the loss, which was their seventh straight on the road dating back to last season. As for Shenandoah Valley, their win (their first of the season) made their record 1-2.
