Dexter hasn't had much luck against East Mountain recently, but that could start to change on Thursday. The Demons will face off against the Timberwolves at 2:00 p.m. Dexter has given up an average of 13.7 runs per game this season, but Thursday's game will give them a chance to turn things around.
Dexter came up short against Sandia Prep on Tuesday, falling 15-2.
Felipe Rangel was cooking despite his team's loss, getting on base in all three of his plate appearances with two stolen bases.
Meanwhile, East Mountain waltzed into their matchup on Tuesday with 11 straight wins... but they left with 12. Everything went their way against the Bobcats as they made off with an 18-1 win. The result was nothing new for the Timberwolves, who have now won 11 contests by six runs or more so far this season.
Christopher Moya was a major factor no matter where he played. He struck out eight batters over four innings while giving up just one earned run off three hits (and only one walk). Those eight strikeouts gave him a new career-high. He was also stellar in the batter's box, going 2-for-3 with five RBI, two doubles, and one stolen base.
In other batting news, East Mountain got a massive performance out of Charles Birdwell, who went 1-for-3 with three stolen bases, two runs, and two RBI. Birdwell has been hot, having posted at least one stolen base the last five times he's played. Another player making a difference was Brody Johnson, who went 2-for-4 with four stolen bases, two runs, and one RBI.
East Mountain always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .658. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Bosque only posted an OBP of .222.
East Mountain's record is now 17-1. As for Dexter, their loss dropped their record down to 4-10.
Dexter suffered a grim 35-0 defeat to East Mountain in their previous matchup back in March. Can the Demons avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
