The West Lafayette Red Devils had already won two in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 15 points), and they went ahead and made it three on Friday. They rang in the new year with a 61-54 victory over Harrison. This was payback for West Lafayette, who suffered a 84-61 defeat the last time these two teams met.
Harrison lost despite a true team effort on the offense, the best among them being Ray Gibson, who scored 13 points along with three steals. Those three steals set a new season-high mark for him. Malachi King was another key contributor, scoring 17 points along with seven rebounds.
West Lafayette's victory bumped their record up to 7-4. As for Harrison, they are on a four-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 5-5.
Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. West Lafayette won't have much time to rest: their next contest is against Covington at 6:30 p.m. on January 6th. Hopefully Covington focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 14 on Friday. Harrison won't have much time to rest: their next match is against Lake Central at 7:30 p.m. on January 6th. Lake Central will be coming into the game with an undefeated record on the line.
