The Chapin Eagles will head out on the road to square off against the Brookland-Cayce Bearcats at 6:30 p.m. on Friday. The teams are on pretty different trajectories at the moment (Chapin has three straight wins, Brookland-Cayce has three straight defeats), but none of that matters once you're on the field.
Chapin is headed in fresh off scoring the most runs they have all season. They blew past Irmo 14-4 on Thursday. That's two games straight that the Eagles have won by exactly ten runs.
Reese Jolly looked comfortable as he pitched one inning while giving up no earned runs off one hit. He has been consistent : he hasn't given up more than two hits any time he's pitched this season.
At the plate, Chapin let Ty Harper and Caden Reeves run wild. Harper went 1-for-2 with one home run, four RBI, and two runs, while Reeves got on base in three of his five plate appearances with one home run and four RBI. That's the most RBI Reeves has posted since back in April of 2024. Bobby Gummere was another key player, scoring two runs while getting on base in three of his four plate appearances.
Chapin hit smart and finished the game with only one strikeout. The team has now struck out at least two batters in three consecutive matchups.
Meanwhile, Brookland-Cayce fought the good fight in their extra-innings game against Gilbert on Thursday but wound up with a less-than-desirable result. They fell just short of the Indians by a score of 2-1. Bearcats fans who chose to attend the game sure picked the wrong one: it was the first time the team's lost against the Indians since on Thursday.
Preston Coggins was a force to be reckoned with on the mound despite the final result: he struck out eight batters over seven innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off six hits (and only one walk).
On the hitting side, Brookland-Cayce saw five different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Bennett Plane, who went 1-for-3 with two stolen bases. Thomas Donadio also deserves some recognition as he snagged his first stolen base of the season.
Brookland-Cayce's loss dropped their record down to 7-10. As for Chapin, their record is now 11-5.
Chapin took their victory against Brookland-Cayce in their previous matchup on Friday by a conclusive 7-0 score. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Eagles since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
