The St. Joseph Academy Jaguars will head out to take on the Gilmour Academy Lancers at 5:00 p.m. on Wednesday. The teams are rolling into the game with opposing streaks: St. Joseph Academy has struggled recently with four defeats in a row, while Gilmour Academy will arrive with five straight victories.
St. Joseph Academy came up short against Medina on Tuesday, falling 12-2. That's two games in a row now that the Jaguars have lost by exactly ten runs.
Amelia Reyes was cooking despite her team's loss, going 1-for-2 with one home run and two RBI.
Meanwhile, Gilmour Academy made easy work of Notre Dame-Cathedral Latin on Saturday and carried off a 14-2 win. The result was nothing new for the Lancers, who have now won three matchups by six runs or more so far this season.
Camden Dreiling made a splash while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out six batters over five innings while giving up just two earned runs off six hits (and not a single walk). She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than one walk in four consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, going 2-for-3 with two RBI.
In other batting news, Ava Gundling was incredible, getting on base in all four of her plate appearances with one home run, three runs, and three RBI. She has been hot recently, having also posted at least one stolen base the last four times she's played. Aiden Pike was another key player, scoring three runs and stealing a base while going 2-for-2.
Gilmour Academy always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .667. The last time their OBP was this high was back in April of 2024.
Gilmour Academy pushed their record up to 5-0 with the victory, which was their fifth straight at home dating back to last season. Those home wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they've averaged 12.4 runs this season. As for St. Joseph Academy, their loss dropped their record down to 5-7.
Wednesday's game will be a test for both teams' pitchers. St. Joseph Academy hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .351. However, it's not like Gilmour Academy struggles in that department as they've averaged .400. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
St. Joseph Academy might still be hurting after the 15-3 defeat they got from Gilmour Academy when the teams last played back in April of 2024. Can the Jaguars avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
