The Washburn Rural Blues won the last time they faced the Hayden Wildcats, and things went their way on Friday too. Everything went Washburn Rural's way against Hayden as Washburn Rural made off with a 62-41 win. Given Washburn Rural's advantage in MaxPreps' Kansas basketball rankings (they are ranked 79th, while Hayden is ranked 216th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Leading Washburn Rural to victory were Griffin Durst and John Hoytal. Durst scored 17 points along with six rebounds, while Hoytal scored 14 points along with two steals. Durst is on a roll when it comes to points, as he's now scored 15 or more in the last three games he's played. JC Heim was another key contributor, scoring four points along with nine rebounds and three steals.
Washburn Rural has been performing well recently as they've won four of their last five matches, which provided a nice bump to their 8-9 record this season. As for Hayden, they are on a 12-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 4-13.
Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Washburn Rural will face off against Topeka at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Washburn Rural has been dominant on offense recently, as they've racked up an incredible 187 points over their last three matches. Hayden will be staying on the road on Tuesday to face off against Junction City/St. Xavier on February 13th. Junction City/St. Xavier's defense has only allowed 22 points per game this season, so Hayden's offense will have their work cut out for them.
