Sumrall has gone a perfect 3-0 against St. Patrick recently and they'll look to pad the win column further on Wednesday. The Bobcats will face off against the Fighting Irish at 7:00 p.m. Sumrall will be looking to extend their current nine-game winning streak.
St. Patrick's hitters are going to have their work cut out for them on Wednesday: Sumrall hadn't allowed a single run the last three times they've hit the field. Everything went the Bobcats' way against Fort Payne on Saturday as they made off with a 6-0 win. The Bobcats might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won nine games by six runs or more this season.
Sumrall got a great performance from Cooper McCoy as he kept things locked down with no earned runs or hits over five innings pitched. McCoy has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up a single earned run in five consecutive appearances.
At the plate, the team relied heavily on Braelyn Harrison, who got on base in all four of his plate appearances with two stolen bases and three runs. Another player making a difference was Parker Hawkins, who went 1-for-4 with one stolen base, two RBI, and one run.
The home team had won the previous three meetings between St. Patrick and Poplarville, and St. Patrick kept the tradition alive. The Fighting Irish had just enough and edged out the Hornets 2-1 on Saturday.
Gunner Eure was excellent, going 3-for-4 with two doubles and one run. He is becoming a predictor of St. Patrick's success: when he posts at least three hits the team is undefeated (and 4-6 when he doesn't).
St. Patrick now has a winning record of 7-6. As for Sumrall, their record is now 11-2.
The batters for both teams will have to hit smart on Wednesday as both have some strikeout artists on the roster. Sumrall has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 8.4 strikeouts per game. However, it's not like St. Patrick struggles in that department as they've been averaging an even more impressive 8.2 strikeouts. Considering how easily both teams rack up Ks, the hitters on both teams better bring their A-game into this one.
Everything went Sumrall's way against St. Patrick when the teams last played back in March of 2021, as Sumrall made off with a 7-0 victory. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Bobcats since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
