The Santaluces Chiefs will head out on the road to square off against the Treasure Coast Titans at 5:30 p.m. on Thursday. Both teams took a loss in their last game, so they'll have plenty of motivation to get the 'W'.
Last Monday, Santaluces came up short against Boynton Beach and fell 45-34. While losing is never fun, Santaluces can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Florida basketball rankings (they are ranked 492nd, while Boynton Beach is ranked 135th).
Despite their loss, Santaluces saw several players rise to the challenge and make noteworthy plays. Makaylah Wayde, who scored 13 points along with eight rebounds and two steals, was perhaps the best of all. Wayde is absolutely dominating the steal category: she's posted at least two every time she's taken the court this season. Lyiah Gaitor was another key contributor, scoring six points along with 12 rebounds and five blocks.
Meanwhile, Treasure Coast's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Tuesday after their sixth straight loss. They fell to Vero Beach 41-37. Treasure Coast has struggled against Vero Beach recently, as their contest on Tuesday was their sixth consecutive lost matchup.
Santaluces dropped their record down to 4-10 with that loss, which was their third straight at home. Those losses could be blamed on the team's offensive performance across that stretch, as they only averaged 27.0 points per game. As for Treasure Coast, they have been struggling recently, as they've lost seven of their last eight contests, which put a noticeable dent in their 7-12 record this season.
