The Madison Trojans can finally bid farewell to their three-game losing streak thanks to their game on Tuesday. Couldn't have asked for a better start to 2024 than the 75-46 blowout they got on the road against Village Tech. Given Madison's advantage in MaxPreps' Texas basketball rankings (they are ranked 553rd, while Village Tech is ranked 1292nd), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Madison to victory, but perhaps none more so than Gerren "Git" Chester II, who scored 17 points along with six rebounds. Those 17 points set a new season-high mark for him. The team also got some help courtesy of Davonta Morgan-Collins, who scored 14 points.
Village Tech lost despite a true team effort on the offense, the best among them being Isaiah Thomas, who scored 14 points along with three steals. Thomas has been hot recently, having posted two or more steals the last six times he's played. Another player making a difference was Andrew May, who scored five points along with seven rebounds.
Madison's win bumped their record up to 9-10. As for Village Tech, they are on a three-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 6-14.
Madison will be playing at home against Life Oak Cliff at 2:30 p.m. on Friday. As for Village Tech, they will head out on the road to face off against A Plus Academy at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. A Plus Academy comes in still looking for their first win of the season.
