The Canutillo Eagles came tearing into Thursday's contest with eight straight wins (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 16.6 points) and they left with even more momentum. They snuck past Austin with a 28-24 victory. Given Canutillo's advantage in MaxPreps' Texas basketball rankings (they are ranked 533rd, while Austin is ranked 1127th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Rebekah Perez was the offensive standout of the game as she scored 12 points along with 7 rebounds and 3 blocks. She is on a roll when it comes to blocks, as she's now blocked two or more in the last seven games she's played.
Canutillo's win bumped their record up to 9-3. As for Austin, they are on a eight-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 4-9.
Canutillo's road trip will continue as they head out to face Clint at 3:00 p.m. on December 1st. Hopefully Clint focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 19 on Thursday. As for Austin, they will take on Loretto at 12:00 p.m. on Friday.
