Given West Craven's advantage in MaxPreps' North Carolina basketball rankings (they are ranked 45th, while New Bern is ranked 259th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
West Craven was led to victory by Shalawn Yates and Torvonyah Heggie. Yates dropped a double-double on 17 points and 10 rebounds, while Heggie dropped a double-double on 20 points and 14 rebounds. The matchup was Heggie's fourth in a row with at least ten points. Alissa Yates was another key contributor, scoring 4 points along with 8 rebounds and 7 steals.
The victory for West Craven keeps them at an undefeated 4-0. Those good results were due in large part to their offensive dominance across that stretch, as they averaged 52.8 points per game. As for New Bern, they have traveled a rocky road recently, as they've lost five of their last six games, which put a noticeable dent in their 2-6 record this season.
Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. West Craven will square off against Pamlico County at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday. As for New Bern, they will head out on the road to face off against Havelock at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Havelock is coming into the match on a four-game losing streak.
