3A Region 4 recap October 8, 2013
Ben Jones and Robert Adams provided fans with a highlight when they connected against Thorsby. The longest such play in 3A Region 4 this season, the connection resulted in 77 yards.
Montevallo fell to Midfield 69-6 last week, the largest margin of any game.
Jackson Scott was a key player and the best on defense this week as Trinity Presbyterian topped the Rebels. The 6-foot-0 sophomore forced 1 fumble and recorded 1 fumble.
Andrew Hammond put up the best numbers in passing as Central of Coosa County fell to Tarrant. He finished with 15 completions for 175 yards and 2 touchdowns. Hammond's favorite target this week was Justin Thornton, who caught 4 passes for 54 yards.
Thanks to the talents of Hammond and Rod Whetstone, the Cougars have been able to do all sorts of things on offense. Hammond is tops in the league in passing with 518 yards, while Whetstone has rushed for 301 yards this season. Tops in the league in receiving yards is the Wildcats' Adams, with 520 yards on 39 catches.
An important game coming up in the league this week will be when Comer takes on Trinity Presbyterian. At the moment, the Tigers are in third, while Randy Ragsdale's team is in first.
Leeds made the biggest leap in the national rankings this week, rising to 3,833 from 4,436. The improvement was the result of a 47-0 victory over Comer last week.
