The Gillespie Miners had to endure a nine-game losing streak, but that streak is no more. They simply couldn't be stopped on Wednesday as they easily beat Mt. Olive 69-34 on the road. The victory was just what Gillespie needed coming off of a 77-49 defeat in their prior contest.
Despite the loss, Mt. Olive saw an underclassman step up: Matthew Bywater scored 11 points along with seven rebounds and four steals. Bywater hasn't dropped below two steals for four straight games.
Gillespie's win ended a eight-game drought on the road and puts them at 5-16. As for Mt. Olive, they have not been sharp recently, as they've lost nine of their last ten contests, which put a noticeable dent in their 3-17 record this season.
Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Gillespie will take on Hillsboro at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. As for Mt. Olive, they will be playing at home against Tri-City at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday.
