West Sequoia recap Oct. 3, 2012
Minarets's Jake Corchine rumbled for the longest rushing play in West Sequoia this season in his game against Orosi last week. Corchine's team fell to the Cardinals as he sprinted for 88 yards on the play and finished with 88 in all.
James Silva and Thomas Valle provided fans with a highlight when they connected against Central Valley Christian. The connection went for 80 yards, the longest such play in the league this season.
Fowler's offense was tough to stop this week, as it produced the league's top passer, rusher and receiver. Silva threw for 254 and two touchdowns and Valle had 144 yards receiving. On the ground Hugo Martinez chipped in 139 yards. Martinez helped Fowler's passing attack out by catching six balls for 63 yards.
Corchine made the biggest impact on defense this week as Minarets lost to Orosi. The 5-foot-9 senior recorded one fumble.
5-foot-8 quarterback Silva of the Redcats is the league leader in passing yards this season with 827. He has also thrown seven touchdowns. On the ground, Parlier's JC Chavez has rushed for 444 yards which leads the league. The leading receiver in the league this season is Rogelio Huerta. The Parlier star has 15 catches for 233 yards.
A big matchup in West Sequoia this week will be when Fowler takes on the Panthers. Steve Nelson's team is currently in first, while Parlier is in third.
There should be lots of points scored when the Redcats and David Muro's team face off this week. The top two offenses in the league, Fowler comes in having scored 142 this season, while the Panthers have scored 137. The Redcats scored 41 points last week as they topped the Cavaliers.
Fowler moved up to 513 from 579 in the state rankings this week, the biggest jump in the league. The Redcats were able to make the jump by beating Central Valley Christian 41-13.
