The South Fremont Cougars will head out on the road to face off against the Sugar-Salem Diggers at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. The squads are rolling into the game with opposing streaks: South Fremont has struggled recently with five losses in a row, while Sugar-Salem will arrive with 18 straight wins.
There was early excitement for South Fremont after they claimed the first score on Thursday, but it was Marsh Valley who ended up claiming the real prize. South Fremont lost to Marsh Valley at home by a decisive 31-14 margin.
South Fremont's loss came about despite a quality game from Bryce Johnson, who rushed for 85 yards and two touchdowns.
Meanwhile, Sugar-Salem was fully in charge on Friday, breezing past Teton 41-14 on the road. The result was nothing new for Sugar-Salem, who have now won six matchups by 27 points or more so far this season.
Sugar-Salem's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Carson Harris led the charge by rushing for 112 yards and a touchdown on only 15 carries. Harris is on a roll when it comes to rushing yards, as he's now rushed for 100 or more in the last six games he's played. Tate Cutler also deserves a shout-out for his two touchdowns.
Sugar-Salem's victory bumped their season record to 7-0 while South Fremont's loss dropped theirs to 1-7.
South Fremont was dealt a bruising 47-19 loss at the hands of Sugar-Salem when the teams last played back in October of 2022. Thankfully for South Fremont, Daniel Neal (who rushed for 34 yards and three touchdowns, and also threw for 160 yards and three touchdowns while completing 72.7% of his passes) won't be suiting up this time.
