HERTFORD, N.C. - The defense contributed on the scoring end for
Holmes (Edenton, N.C.) on Saturday, totaling 13 points as the Aces bested Perquimans (Hertford, N.C.) 61-0.
After taking the lead on a touchdown catch by
Tavis Stanley in the first quarter, the Aces led 54-0 at the half.
Holmes expanded its lead to 61 points entering the fourth quarter. HHS's lone score in the quarter came on a defensive touchdown.
The Edenton school scored 12 points on special teams en route to the win.
Holmes' standout player in the win was
Devin Coston. The junior quarterback threw four touchdowns.
When the two teams played each other last season, Holmes came away with a 58-24 victory.
The win was a nice bounce back for HHS, which lost to West Craven last week, 27-23.
Perquimans (0-2) will play a non-conference game against Pasquotank next week, while Holmes (1-1) will take on Plymouth also in a non-conference game.
