The Hobart Brickies were the 59-39 winner over the South Central Satellites when they last played one another back in November of 2022, but their luck changed this time around. Hobart was just a bucket shy of victory on Wednesday and fell 42-41 to South Central. Hobart has now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.
Despite the loss, Hobart still got an impressive performance from Anthony Hnilo, who dropped a double-double on 14 points and 10 rebounds. Hnilo scored a full 34.1% of Hobart's points, the second time in a row he's earned more than a third of the team's points. Another player making a difference was Caleb Mamushe, who scored 9 points.
South Central found their leader in underclassman Jay Huerta, who scored 19 points. The team also got some help courtesy of Derek Welsh, who scored 9 points.
Hobart now has a losing record at 1-2. As for South Central, the win got them back to even at 1-1.
Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Hobart will challenge Portage at 2:30 p.m. on Saturday. Portage presents a significant challenge as they come into the match much higher ranked than Hobart in Indiana (Portage is ranked 129th, while Hobart is ranked 279th). As for South Central, they will head out on the road to face off against Trinity at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. Hopefully Trinity focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up seven on Tuesday.
