Atholton and Wilde Lake are an even 5-5 against one another since February of 2016, but not for long. The Atholton Raiders will head out on the road to face off against the Wilde Lake Wildecats at 5:30 p.m. on Monday. Atholton is looking to tack on another W to their seven-game streak on the road.
On Friday, Atholton got the win against Glenelg by a conclusive 64-39. The matchup was pretty much decided by the half, when the score had already reached 37-13.
Atholton got their victory on the backs of several key players, but it was Amir Shaheed out in front who scored 16 points. Another player making a difference was Deion Dent, who scored 14 points along with five rebounds.
Meanwhile, Wilde Lake pushed their score all the way to 61 on Wednesday, but even that wasn't enough to win. They fell 70-61 to River Hill. While losing is never fun, Wilde Lake can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Maryland basketball rankings (they are ranked 137th, while River Hill is ranked 29th).
Atholton is on a roll lately: they've won nine of their last ten matches, which provided a nice bump to their 14-6 record this season. As for Wilde Lake, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 9-11.
Atholton lost to Wilde Lake on the road by a decisive 74-58 margin when the teams last played back in December of 2023. Can Atholton avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
