Basketball Recap: Republic Comes Up Short

If Republic was feeling good fresh off their 57-34 takedown of Chewelah last Saturday, their most recent game may have dampened their spirits a bit. The Republic Tigers had to suffer through a 52-22 loss at the hands of the Oroville Hornets. The loss was a bit of a surprise, as the Tigers came into the match with a sizable advantage in MaxPreps' Washington basketball rankings (they are ranked 116th, while the Hornets are ranked 287th).

Republic moved to 8-2 with that loss, which also ended their three-game winning streak. As for Oroville, they are on a roll lately: they've won three of their last four contests, which provided a nice bump to their 3-7 record this season.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Republic won't have much time to rest: their next game is against Mary Walker at 3:00 p.m. on Saturday. Republic is facing Mary Walker at the right time seeing as Mary Walker is stuck on a seven-game losing streak. As for Oroville, they and Curlew will face off at 4:30 p.m. on Saturday without much rest having both just played. The timing is sure in Curlew's favor as the squad sits on three straight wins at home while Oroville has been banged up by 13 consecutive losses on the road dating back to last season.
