The McCallum Knights will head out on the road to take on the Bastrop Bears at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. McCallum will be looking to extend their current 12-game winning streak.
While McCallum's victory against Richards School for Young Women Leaders wasn't quite the blowout it was the last time the pair played, they still came out on top. The Knights narrowly escaped with a win as the team sidled past Richards School for Young Women Leaders 6-4.
Natalie Myrick made a splash no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out seven batters over three innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. She has been consistent for a while: she hasn't given up more than two walks in ten consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, going 1-for-3 with one run, one double, and one RBI.
In other batting news, Lucy Grantham was excellent, going 1-for-3 with one triple, one stolen base, and one run. Nichelle Floyd also deserves some recognition as she hit her first triple of the season.
McCallum hit smart and finished the game with only two strikeouts. The team's really been improving in that area: they've now improved their strikeout total in three consecutive matchups.
Meanwhile, after only two runs in their last game, Bastrop made sure to put some runs up on the board against Anderson on Friday. The Bears blew past the Trojans 11-3. The result was nothing new for the Bears, who have now won eight contests by seven runs or more so far this season.
Like McCallum, Bastrop also got a great game from a two-way player: Ella Greisenbeck. She tossed 5.1 innings while giving up just two earned runs off ten hits. What's more, Greisenbeck posted five strikeouts, the most she's had since back in March. She was also stellar in the batter's box, going 3-for-5 with three RBI, two runs, and one double.
In other batting news, Bastrop let Madison Perez and Lanie Coy run wild. Perez got on base in four of her five plate appearances with one home run, two runs, and two RBI, while Coy went 3-for-5 with one home run, two runs, and two RBI. Another player making a difference was Ryan Stephanick, who went 3-for-4 with one stolen base, one run, and one RBI.
McCallum's record now sits at 15-9. As for Bastrop, their record is now 12-10-1.
Tuesday's matchup will be a test for both teams' pitchers. McCallum hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .343. However, it's not like Bastrop struggles in that department as they've averaged .383. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
McCallum skirted past Bastrop 10-9 when the teams last played back in March. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Knights since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
