Northern Guilford (Greensboro, N.C.) extended its winning streak to seven games with a 56-7 victory over McMichael (Mayodan, N.C.) on Saturday.
The Nighthawks were up 42-7 at the half after taking the lead on a defensive touchdown in the first quarter.
Northern Guilford expanded its lead to 42 points entering the fourth quarter. NG's lone score in the quarter came on a touchdown run.
A 28-point first quarter set the table for the Greensboro school, which coasted the rest of the way for the victory.
The Nighthawks' standout player in the win was
T.J. Logan. The senior running back ran for two touchdowns. He has now scored 17 touchdowns on the season.
The Phoenix's lone touchdown came on a pass in the second quarter.
Northern Guilford came into the game allowing 4.7 points per game. The seven points that McMichael ended with were well below its average of 26.2 coming into the game.
NG also won the meeting between the two teams last season, 55-23.
The loss comes after McMichael defeated Morehead 14-7 last week.
In a 3A Mid-State game next week Northern Guilford (7-0) takes on Rockingham County, and McMichael (3-4) will go up against Eastern Alamance also in a 3A Mid-State game.
