Winfield has been on the road for five straight, but on Saturday they'll finally head home. They will take on the Sissonville Indians at 7:00 p.m. on Saturday. Both teams took a loss in their last game, so they'll have plenty of motivation to get the 'W'.
Last Thursday, Winfield came up short against the Tigers and fell 47-36. The loss unfortunately continues a disappointing trend for Winfield in their matchups with the Tigers: they've now lost three in a row.
The loss doesn't tell the whole story though, as several players had good games. One of the most active was Kaitlyn Sayre, who scored 14 points along with eight rebounds. Gabriella Canterbury was another key contributor, scoring four points along with six assists and four steals.
Meanwhile, Sissonville faced the Wildcats in a battle between two of the state's top teams. Sissonville was the victim of a tough 55-32 defeat at the hands of the Wildcats on Monday. Sissonville has been going strong on the season, but this is now their second loss in a row.
Despite the loss, Sissonville got a solid performance out of Kynadee Britton, who scored 20 points. That was a full 62.5% of Sissonville's points, marking the eighth time in a row she's earned more than a third of the team's points. Another player making a difference was Ava Hillabold, who scored a point along with seven rebounds and six steals.
Winfield's defeat dropped their record down to 9-9. As for Sissonville, their defeat was their fourth straight on the road, which dropped their record down to 11-6.
This contest is one where the number of possessions is likely to be a big factor: Winfield have been smashing the glass this season, having averaged 29 rebounds per game. However, it's not like Sissonville struggles in that department as they've been averaging 33.6 rebounds per game. Given these competing strengths, it'll be interesting to see how their clash plays out.
Winfield came up short against the Indians in their previous meeting last Tuesday, falling 44-35.
