The Voyager Vikings came tearing into Friday's match with seven straight wins (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 26.3 points) and they left with even more momentum. They took down Vance Charter 67-50. 67 seems to be a good number for Voyager as the team scooped up a victory with the same number of points in their previous game.
David McMillon went supernova for Voyager, scoring 12 points along with eight rebounds and three steals. McMillon is trending in the right direction, as he's improved his point production for three games straight. The team also got some help courtesy of Michael Gales, who almost dropped a double-double on ten points and nine rebounds.
Vance Charter's defeat came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Collin Hughes, who scored 16 points. Gary Wilkins was another key contributor, scoring 14 points.
Voyager has been performing well recently as they've won nine of their last 12 matchups, which provided a nice bump to their 14-8 record this season. As for Vance Charter, their defeat ended a three-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 9-7.
Voyager will head out on the road to challenge the Griffins at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Oxford Prep will be looking to keep their four-game home win streak alive. Vance Charter will take on the Pride at 6:30 p.m. on Monday. One thing working in Henderson Collegiate's favor is that they have posted big point totals in their last four games.
