The Mary Walker Chargers will look to defend their home court on Saturday against the Curlew Cougars at 4:30 p.m. Expect the scorekeeper to be kept busy: if their previous games are any indication, the pair will really light up the scoreboard.
Mary Walker put the finishing touches on their seventh blowout victory of the season on Wednesday. Everything went their way against Columbia as Mary Walker made off with a 57-34 win. The victory was just what Mary Walker needed coming off of a 79-58 loss in their prior game.
Teko Cates continued his habit of posting crazy stat lines, dropping a double-double on 16 points and 13 rebounds. He hasn't dropped below two steals for nine straight games. Another player making a difference was Andru Pinyan, who almost dropped a double-double on 15 points and nine rebounds.
Meanwhile, it may have taken overtime to finish the job, but Curlew ultimately got the result they hoped for on Saturday. They came out on top in a nail-biter against Selkirk and snuck past 59-57. The win made it back-to-back wins for Curlew.
Logan Thompson was his usual excellent self, scoring 34 points along with eight rebounds and six steals. He hasn't dropped below two steals for four straight games. Logan Ringstad was another key contributor, dropping a double-double on 11 points and 14 rebounds.
Mary Walker's victory bumped their record up to 12-8. As for Curlew, their win bumped their record up to 7-13.
This contest is one where the number of possessions is likely to be a big factor: Mary Walker have been smashing the glass this season, having averaged 41.7 rebounds per game. However, it's not like Curlew struggles in that department as they've been averaging 29.2 rebounds per game. Given these competing strengths, it'll be interesting to see how their clash plays out.
