Union won the last time they faced Newton and things went their way on Saturday too. Union blew past Newton 16-1. Considering the Yellowjackets have won seven games by more than eight runs this season, Saturday's blowout was nothing new.
Jackson Flake made a splash while hitting and pitching. He struck out seven batters over three innings while giving up no earned runs or hits (and only one walk). Those seven strikeouts gave him a new career-high. He was also solid in the batter's box, scoring two runs while going 2-for-2.
In other batting news, Mason Tucker and Austin Lee did most of the damage at the plate: Tucker went 2-for-3 with six RBI, one triple, and one double, while Lee scored three runs and stole two bases while going 2-for-2. That's the most stolen bases Lee has posted since back in February. Rafe Manning was another key player, scoring a run and stealing a base while going 1-for-3.
