Westmont Hilltop and Bishop McCort are an even 5-5 against one another since April of 2018, but likely not for long. The Hilltoppers will be playing in front of their home fans against the Crushers at 4:30 p.m. on Wednesday. Westmont Hilltop is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 15.2 runs per game this season.
While Westmont Hilltop didn't have the best season last year (they finished 5-10), it's starting to look like those struggles are a thing of the past. They blew past Penn Cambria 16-6 on Monday. Considering the Hilltoppers have won five matchups by more than seven runs this season, Monday's blowout was nothing new.
Westmont Hilltop let Bella Kist and Cali Lynch run wild. Kist scored three runs and stole two bases while going 3-for-4, while Lynch went 2-for-3 with one home run, four RBI, and two runs. Kist also put up a home run, which was her first of the season. Another player making a difference was Lamya Stevens, who scored a run and stole a base while going 2-for-3.
Meanwhile, Bishop McCort fell victim to Central Cambria and their airtight pitching crew on Monday. They fell just short of the Red Devils by a score of 1-0. The Crushers haven't had much luck with the Red Devils recently, as the team has come up short the last five times they've met.
Lariah Myers spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered only one earned run on four hits.
Westmont Hilltop's win was their third straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 5-1. Those road victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 18.7 runs over those games. As for Bishop McCort, their defeat dropped their record down to 3-3.
Fans could be in store for some top-tier slugging on Wednesday. Westmont Hilltop hasn't had any problems when it comes to power this season, having averaged 1.2 home runs per game. However, it's not like Bishop McCort struggles in that department as they've been averaging 0.5 home runs. With so much power on both teams, it'll be down to the pitchers to keep the mound locked down.
Westmont Hilltop couldn't quite get it done against Bishop McCort in their previous meeting on Saturday as they fell 11-8. Will the Hilltoppers have more luck at home instead of on the road? Check MaxPreps after the action for a full breakdown of the game and more softball content.
