Patterson Mill is coming in fresh off a high-stakes matchup with another one of Maryland's top teams: Bohemia Manor, who was ranked 20th at the time (Patterson Mill was ranked fourth). Patterson Mill's pitcher stepped up to hand Bohemia Manor a 5-0 shutout on Wednesday.
The result came thanks to Lily Baldwin's shutout, as she gave up just four hits and racked up six Ks. She has been consistent: she hasn't given up more than two walks in six consecutive appearances.
At the plate, the team relied heavily on Mackenzie Knight, who went 3-for-4 with two runs and one stolen base. Another player making a difference was Ava Ward, who went 3-for-4 with one double and one RBI.
They weren't the only ones making solid contact: Patterson Mill kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 12 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least nine hits in seven consecutive matchups.
Meanwhile, after only one run in their last contest, C. Milton Wright made sure to put some runs up on the board against Aberdeen last Tuesday. The Mustangs blew past the Eagles 16-1. The Mustangs might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won five games by ten runs or more this season.
Madalyn Hoskins made a splash while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out eight batters over three innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit (and only one walk). Those eight strikeouts gave her a new career-high. She was also stellar in the batter's box, going 2-for-3 with two stolen bases, two runs, and one RBI.
In other batting news, C. Milton Wright got a massive performance out of Brooke Lusby, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with three runs, three RBI, and one stolen base. That's the most RBI Lusby has posted since back in March. Kendra Miller was another key player, going 3-for-4 with three runs, two doubles, and one stolen base.
C. Milton Wright is on a roll lately: they've won eight of their last nine matchups. That's provided a nice bump to their 9-4 record this season. The victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 11.8 runs over those games. As for Patterson Mill, their win was their fifth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 13-1.
Thursday's contest will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Patterson Mill hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .382. However, it's not like C. Milton Wright struggles in that department as they've averaged .371. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
